Borough Commission Meeting

Open Public Meetings Act

A meeting of the Board of Commissioners of the Borough of Cape May Point was called to order on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at 10:00 am. in the Conference Room at the Municipal Building located at 215 Lighthouse Avenue in Cape May Point.  Mayor Schupp announced that this meeting having been properly posted and advertised, was being held in accordance with the Open Public Meetings of 1975 (N.J.S.A 10:4-6) also known as Sunshine Law.  The Municipal Clerk took the following roll call:

Review Agenda

The Board of Commissioners reviewed the tentative agenda for Thursday evening’s meeting.  The Board approved the tentative agenda. 

 

Mayor Carl Schupp recommended that a copy of resolution 65-08 be faxed to the solicitor for his review prior to the Borough meeting on Thursday.

 

Ordinance 550-08:

Commissioner van Heeswyk inquired if the Borough Commissioners were going to research other ways to bill the water including possibly lowering the minimum.  Mayor Schupp stated that a review of the usage could be done to see what is economical for the Borough.

 

Ordinance 551-08:

Mayor Schupp stated that it is the Commissioner’s duty to protect the Borough from liability and that this ordinance will clarify some issues. Commissioner van Heeswyk questioned the volunteer firehouse insurance under the JIF and how they were established to insure that they are included under Title 59.

 

Discussions

Commissioner Nietubicz stated the Coral Avenue beach has been cleaned up and the tables and chairs removed. He noted that the buoy from Lehigh and Whilldin Avenues has shifted down to St. Peter’s beach and that measures should be taken to move it back.  Commissioner Nietubicz asked if the new Edmunds System software installation was moving forward and Francine Springer stated that training was scheduled for the end of the month.  Commissioner Nietubicz stated that the new Class II officer will be starting this weekend to patrol the Borough on bicycle.

 

Commissioner van Heeswyk stated that the office changes would most likely happen the following week.  Bill Gibson will be helping move the larger cabinets and Joe will move the computer hardware.  She also asked if a meeting with Dale Foster cold be arranged to discuss the progress on the Lincoln Avenue paving.

 

Mayor Schupp passed out a letter with attachments regarding any State mandates that the Borough Commissioners are not happy with and explained that requests for said changes should be forwarded to the Assembly on the form provided.  He asked that all comments regarding the mandates be forwarded to him so the letter could be sent to Trenton as soon as possible.  He also passed along the CMCMUA’s contact information so that all employees would know the hours of operation and any emergency contacts at the various facilities.

 

Public Portion

Sally Sachs inquired about the wine and cheese party insurance issues and asked if they were resolved. Mayor Schupp explained that the hosts will have to obtain a rider on their own insurance.

 

Adjournment

Upon motion by Commissioner Nietubicz and a second by Commissioner van Heeswyk the meeting was adjourned at 11:17 am.
